The 'daughter of Ahab' is almost certainly Athaliah, who will later seize the throne of Judah and nearly extinguish the Davidic line altogether (2 Chr. 22:10–12). The Chronicler frames the marriage not as a political alliance but as a spiritual infection: Omride apostasy transplanted into the house of David through the marriage bed. The causal structure of the verse — 'for she was his wife' — makes the connection explicit: her presence is the engine of his corruption.
