Antilutron is a compound unique to this verse in the entire NT. Lutron = ransom / price of release; the prefix anti- (in place of / in exchange for) adds explicit substitutionary weight — He gave Himself in place of all. The F.O.G preserves this substitutionary nuance with "ransom-substitute"; the F.O.G Message uses the more accessible "ransom." Kairois idiois (at its own appointed time) echoes the divine scheduling language throughout the Pastoral Epistles — the ransom was not improvised but foreordained within God's timetable.
