He works from a personal encounter with Jesus first, then draws on the scholarship of respected Jewish and Christian scholars — because the church was Jewish before it was anything else, and those roots change everything about how you read Scripture.

The *Girzi* (Girzites) appear only here in the Hebrew Bible; their identification is uncertain, and some LXX manuscripts read Γεζριτῶν (Gezrites). The *Amaleqi* carry specific theological weight as the paradigmatic enemy under *cherem* (sacred-destruction) obligation from Deut. 25:17–19 and 1 Sam. 15—meaning Dawid's raids on them echo Sha'ul's earlier failed commission to destroy them. *Me'olam* ("from of old") invokes primordial antiquity. FOG renders "ancient inhabitants"; FOG Message draws out the timelessness with "time immemorial."
