*Naval* (נָבָל) is not merely a proper name but the Hebrew common noun for fool or moral disgrace — one who is spiritually bankrupt and shamelessly self-serving (cf. Ps. 14:1; Isa. 32:5–6). His wife *Avigayil* (אֲבִיגַיִל), meaning my father is joy, stands in deliberate contrast. *Kalevite* (כָּלֵבִי) ties him to the clan of Caleb, a man renowned for wholehearted faithfulness to YHWH (Num. 14:24) — Naval's disgrace is all the sharper against that heritage. FOG retains the Hebrew name *Naval* so readers encounter the same jarring wordplay the original audience did; FOG Message uses Nabal but draws out the meaning explicitly at v. 25.
