The Hebrew phrase לְהָסֵךְ אֶת רַגְלָיו (*l'hasekh et raglaiv*) — literally 'to cover his feet' — is a well-attested biblical euphemism for defecation (cf. Judges 3:24). The earthy irony is deliberate: the most powerful man in Israel, who has mobilised three thousand troops, is caught in a moment of supreme physical vulnerability. The cave meant to hide David becomes the stage for a cosmic test of his character. Both translations render the idiom functionally; FOG preserves the understated deadpan tone of the original Hebrew narrative.
