He works from a personal encounter with Jesus first, then draws on the scholarship of respected Jewish and Christian scholars — because the church was Jewish before it was anything else, and those roots change everything about how you read Scripture.

*Sabboti* (סַבֹּתִי, "I have brought about / I have turned against") — David's confession of causal guilt is striking in a narrative where blame-shifting is the default mode (cf. Saul's deflections in 1 Sam 15:15, 21). He does not minimise, deflect, or qualify. FOG renders "I am responsible for the lives" to emphasise the guardianship David assumed when Ahimelech sheltered him; FOG Message uses "death" for unmediated moral impact. Both translations insist on the same point: David owns this consequence fully.
