The MT is abbreviated here, reading only 'Give Thummim' (*hava thummim*). The LXX preserves a longer, likely original text: 'O YHWH God of Yisra'el, why have You not answered Your servant today? If the guilt is in me or in Yonatan my son, give Urim; but if the guilt is in Your people Yisra'el, give Thummim.' This fuller text makes better sense of the inquiry procedure; the MT likely suffered a scribal omission (homoioteleuton). *Urim* (possibly 'lights' or 'curses') and *Thummim* (possibly 'perfections' or 'completions/innocence') were the sacred divinatory objects housed in the priestly ephod. FOG follows the MT; FOG Message renders *Thummim* meaningfully as 'true lot.'
