The MT reads *Bedān* as the second judge, a name that appears nowhere else in the book of Judges; the LXX reads *Barak* (cf. Judg. 4–5), which most scholars consider original. *Yerubba'al* ('Let Baal contend') is the covenant-name given to Gideon after he demolished a Baʿal altar (Judg. 6:32) — a name that embeds anti-idol polemic within the deliverer's own identity. Samuel's inclusion of himself in the list is simultaneously honest and remarkable: he stands as both prosecutor and living exhibit in his own case for YHWH's faithfulness. FOG follows the MT (*Bedan*); FOG Message follows the LXX (*Barak*), aligning with the Judges narrative and avoiding an otherwise unidentifiable figure.
