πᾶσα σὰρξ (all flesh) is the Hebraism כָּל בָּשָׂר (kol basar) — a phrase encompassing all mortal, creaturely, perishable humanity. F.O.G retains "flesh" to preserve the raw physicality and the Hebraic resonance of the original; F.O.G Message renders "people" for readability and to avoid the sinful-nature associations "flesh" carries in English theological usage. The quotation is from Isaiah 40:6–8 (LXX), where Israel in exile is told that Babylon's power is mere grass — Peter applies the same levelling word to the entire old-creation order.
