ἀπροσωπολήπτως (impartially) literally means "without receiving the face" — translating the Hebrew idiom נָשָׂא פָּנִים (nasa' panim, "to lift the face"), the gesture of showing favouritism toward a socially elevated person. The word holds in tension the extraordinary intimacy of calling God "Father" with the sobering reality that this Father is perfectly just. F.O.G preserves the Greek conditional form with "if" (a first-class conditional, meaning "if, as is the case"); F.O.G Message renders "since" to make the assumed truth explicit and the implication immediate.
