The names *Yakhin* (יָכִין) and *Bo'az* (בֹּעַז) carry profound covenantal meaning. *Yakhin* derives from the root *כון*—to establish, to make firm—almost certainly shorthand for a royal declaration: 'He [YHWH] will establish [the throne/dynasty].' *Bo'az* is debated: it most likely means 'In Him is strength' or 'By strength [he shall prevail].' Together they form a covenant inscription at the very threshold of YHWH's house: the Davidic house and the worship of Israel stand on divine establishment and divine power alone. FOG preserves the Hebrew names; FOG Message uses the traditional English forms familiar from centuries of liturgical use.
