*Yatsiya* (יָצִיעַ), the word for these side chambers, shares a root with a verb meaning 'to spread out' or 'to furnish.' These were not merely utility rooms but an integral architectural embrace of the sanctuary—a layered buffer between the holy interior and the outside world. The *Devir* (דְּבִיר) is the innermost chamber, the Holy of Holies; see note on v. 16. FOG names the Devir by its Hebrew title throughout; FOG Message uses 'inner sanctuary.'
