*Keruvim* (כְּרוּבִים, cherubim) are not the chubby Renaissance infants of popular imagination but formidable composite guardian figures—first stationed at Eden's eastern gate (Gen. 3:24) to guard the way to the Tree of Life, and now presiding over the Ark of the Covenant in the innermost sanctuary. *Atzei shemen* (עֲצֵי שֶׁמֶן, 'oil trees') is likely the wild olive or oleaster, its oil-rich wood carrying connotations of anointing, consecration, and perpetual light. FOG uses 'keruvim' and 'wild-olive wood' to preserve the Hebrew; FOG Message uses traditional 'cherubim' and 'wild olive wood.'
