Gibbethon appears earlier in 1 Kings 15:27, where Baasha had assassinated Nadab during a previous siege of the same city. A generation later, Israel is still there — or back there — besieging the same Philistine town. The repetition is quietly devastating: coup follows coup while the same foreign stronghold remains unconquered. Internal fracture prevents external victory.
