Maakah/Maacah was Aviyam/Abijam's mother (v.2) and therefore Asa's grandmother, yet the text again uses *immo* ('his mother'). This reflects the dynastic institution of the *gevirah* — the queen mother whose official court position could persist generationally, her title designating function rather than biology. FOG retains the literal *immo* ('his mother') of the MT; FOG Message renders 'grandmother' to clarify the biological relationship for contemporary readers. Her dramatic removal in v.13 underscores just how weighty this office was — it was not stripped lightly.
