Na'amah the Ammonit is mentioned again at Rechav'am's death as at his accession (v. 21)—a deliberate literary frame bracketing his entire reign. Her foreign identity contextualises his apostasy within Shlomo's covenant failures. The narrator holds two realities in tension: the Davidic line continues (Aviyam on the throne), yet the shadow of foreign entanglement and spiritual compromise continues with it. The name *Aviyam* ('My Father is the Sea'—or possibly a form of 'My Father is YHWH') is itself debated, a fitting ambiguity for a king whose allegiances will prove equally uncertain.
