The verb *lehakhrit* (לְהַכְרִית), 'to cut off,' is the language of *karet*—the severance penalty in Torah where a person or line is cut off from the people of YHWH (cf. Gen. 17:14; Lev. 17:10). Applied to an entire dynasty, it signals not merely political extinction but covenantal dissolution: the house of Jeroboam is to be unmade as a covenant entity. The sin is not simply poor religious policy—it is structural apostasy, a systemic rejection of YHWH's order that carries its own destruction within it.
