ἔσφαξεν (esphaxen) is the word for sacrificial slaughter of animals, not the ordinary term for killing (ἀποκτείνω). The same root (σφάζω) is used in Revelation for the Lamb 'as if slaughtered.' The bitter irony is that Qayin performed a murderous anti-sacrifice. F.O.G preserves 'slaughtered' to keep this sacrificial horror intact; F.O.G Message uses 'murdered' for emotional directness, letting the typological echo remain implicit.
