He works from a personal encounter with Jesus first, then draws on the scholarship of respected Jewish and Christian scholars — because the church was Jewish before it was anything else, and those roots change everything about how you read Scripture.

συνηθείᾳ = "long habit/custom" — the deeply grooved patterns of a lifetime of pagan formation that no theological argument can simply overwrite. συνείδησις (conscience) means literally "co-knowledge" — the inner witness that evaluates one's own actions. μολύνεται ("is defiled/stained") is ritual-purity language applied to the inner self: acting against conscience does not merely produce guilt — it leaves an interior stain. The FOG renders "long habit" to stress formation; the FOG Message expands to "deep history" to draw out the pastoral weight.
