The Greek πορνεία (porneia) broadly covers sexual immorality, but Paul specifies the offence as a man "having" (ἔχειν — present active, indicating an ongoing relationship) his father's wife — the precise language of Leviticus 18:8 LXX, which forbids uncovering a father's nakedness by sleeping with his wife, i.e., a stepmother. The nations (ἔθνεσιν) means Gentiles/pagans; Paul's shock is that even pagan culture — including Roman law under the lex Iulia de adulteriis — prohibited this. Both versions render porneia functionally the same, but F.O.G preserves the Jewish-legal colouring of the indictment.
