The three antitheses are laced with irony. φρόνιμοι (shrewd, worldly-wise, sensible) is notably not σοφοί (truly wise) — it is the very word used of the serpent in Genesis 3:1 LXX, carrying a subtle edge of cunning self-interest. ἄτιμοι (without honour) and ἔνδοξοι (held in glory/honour) map precisely onto the honour-shame hierarchy of first-century Corinth, the city most obsessed with social rank in the Greco-Roman world.
