The genitive phrase θεοῦ συνεργοί carries a productive ambiguity: "co-workers who belong to God" (workers in His service, subordinate to Him) or "co-workers working alongside God" (collaborative partners in the divine project). Most exegetes favour the former, keeping emphasis on God's ownership of the mission — which fits Paul's entire argument that human teachers are nothing apart from God. The F.O.G renders "Elohim's fellow-workers" as a genitive of possession; the F.O.G Message uses "fellow workers in God's service" to make the subordination explicit. γεώργιον ("cultivated field," not merely "field") implies active cultivation by a farmer, reinforcing God as the primary agent throughout.
