ἀρχιτέκτων ("master builder" or "chief craftsman") appears only here in the entire NT. It combines ἀρχι- (chief, master) and τέκτων (craftsman/builder — the same word used for Yeshua's own trade in Mark 6:3). Paul's self-description as a skilled master-builder is not boasting: "according to the grace given to me" immediately anchors the skill as divine gift. The compound word would have evoked the builders of great civic and sacred structures; Paul applies it to the founding of a Spirit-community. Both versions preserve "master builder" to give the term its proper weight.
