Two terms carry particular weight here. τέλειοι ("mature") — rendered identically in both versions — was loaded vocabulary in Corinth: Greek mystery cults used the word for those fully initiated into their rites. Sha'ul almost certainly subverts this language: the genuinely "mature" are not cult initiates but those formed by the Ruach. ἄρχοντες ("rulers") is also deliberately double-layered: the immediate referent is likely human authorities — Roman officials and Jewish leaders who presided over the crucifixion — but in Second Temple Jewish cosmology earthly rulers had corresponding celestial counterparts (cf. Dan. 10:13, 20). Sha'ul likely holds both registers in view, and both versions translate literally as "rulers" to preserve the ambiguity.
