Vv34–35 appear after v40 in several significant Western manuscripts (notably Codex Bezae), leading some scholars to read them as a later marginal note incorporated at different points in the text. Others read them as original and contextually specific — addressing disruptive public interrogation (cf. v35) rather than all female speech, since 11:5 assumes women praying and prophesying openly in the assembly. Both translations render the text as it stands in the critical editions (NA28/UBS5) without adjudicating the contested question of scope and application.
