The Chronicler transitions from genealogy to geography — the Levitical cities assigned by lot under Joshua (cf. Josh. 21). The casting of the lot (גּוֹרָל, goral) was not random chance but the determination of YHWH's will (Prov. 16:33). The Aaronides receiving the first lot signals both their priestly priority and the sacredness of the entire allocation. Every city name in this list represents a piece of land where YHWH's servants would dwell embedded among the tribes of Israel.
