The Hagri'im (הַגְרִיאִים) are an Arabian tribal confederation associated with Hagar and the broader Ishmaelite network (cf. Ps. 83:6). Their 'tents' (אֹהָלִים) signal a pastoral-nomadic way of life. The Reubenites displacing them from grazing territory is the first instance of the pattern this chapter traces: land secured through holy war—and ultimately lost through covenant unfaithfulness.
