The name here in Chronicles — דָּנִיֵּאל (Dani'el, 'God is my judge') — differs from 2 Samuel 3:3, which calls Abigail's son כִּלְאָב (Chileab), a name of uncertain meaning. Most scholars identify them as the same son recorded under two names — perhaps a birth name and a later personal name, or variant textual traditions. Neither account explains why Chileab/Daniel disappears entirely from the succession narratives; early death is the likeliest inference. FOG uses 'Dani'el' to preserve the Chronicles form; FOG Message uses 'Daniel' while signalling it differs from the Samuel text.
