The *Kapporet* (כַּפֹּרֶת), traditionally rendered 'mercy seat' or 'atonement cover,' is the golden lid of the Ark of the Covenant where the high priest sprinkled blood on Yom Kippur (Lev. 16:14–15). The root *kapar* (כָּפַר) means to cover, atone, and make propitiation—it is the word from which *Kippur* derives. The detailed handover of its design plans underscores that the Temple's innermost sanctum was not a human innovation but a divinely specified reality.
