The age threshold of thirty matches the requirement for full tabernacle service in Numbers 4:3 — the work of physically transporting the sacred furniture demanded mature strength. Yet David lowers this threshold to twenty in v.24, since the heavy carrying work is now finished. The shift signals that Levitical service is being fundamentally reimagined for a settled, temple-based era.
