When spring returned — the season when kings ride to war — Joab led the armies out, laying waste to the land of the Ammonites. He came and besieged Rabbah while David stayed behind in Jerusalem. Joab struck Rabbah and demolished it.
When the year turned and the season came for kings to march out, Yo'av led out the army's force, ravaged the land of the sons of Ammon, came and laid siege to Rabbah—whilst David remained in Yerushalayim. Yo'av struck Rabbah and tore it down.
And it came to pass, that after the year was expired, at the time that kings go out to battle, Joab led forth the power of the army, and wasted the country of the children of Ammon, and came and besieged Rabbah. But David tarried at Jerusalem. And Joab smote Rabbah, and destroyed it.
