Kalev-Efratah' is unknown as a place name elsewhere in Scripture, prompting some scholars to read the Hebrew differently — 'Kalev came in to Efratah' — a back-reference to verse 19 rather than a location name. The phrase *achar mot Hetzron* ('after the death of Hetzron') raises the question of a posthumous son, which ancient Near Eastern custom addressed through levirate-adjacent arrangements. The Chronicler notes the anomaly without explanation. *Teko'a* is the town later associated with the wise woman of 2 Samuel 14 and with the prophet Amos (Amos 1:1).
