The Chronicler inserts an editorial parenthesis absent from 2 Samuel 8:8, deliberately connecting David's battlefield plunder to Solomon's temple furnishings. This is a hallmark of Chronicles' theology: David's wars *fund* the sanctuary even though he is forbidden to build it (1 Chronicles 22:8). Tibhath here is called Betah in 2 Samuel 8:8; Cun corresponds to Berothai. The 'bronze sea' (*yam han'choshet*) was the massive ritual basin in Solomon's temple (1 Kings 7:23–26) — its waters evoking both creation's subdued chaos and priestly purification.
