[4] John stood out dramatically from the religious leaders of his day. He wore rough clothing made of camel's hair, tied with a simple leather belt—the uniform of a prophet, reminiscent of Elijah. His diet was as austere as his message: locusts and wild honey, the food of the poor and desperate.

And this John had his clothing of camel’s hair, and a girdle of skin round his loins, and his nourishment was locusts and honey of the field.
