(26) The king was deeply grieved by his sworn vows and because of those reclining at the table he didn't want to reject her.

The king was devastated. But because of his public oaths and his dinner guests, his pride wouldn't let him refuse her.

And the king—made very sorrowful—because of the oaths and of those reclining (at meat) with him, would not put her away,
