Because of this, the rumor spread among the brothers that this disciple would not die. However, Jesus did not say that he would not die, but only, “If I want him to remain until I return, what is that to you?”

This saying therefore went out among the brothers, that this disciple wouldn’t die. Yet Jesus didn’t say to him that he wouldn’t die, but, “If I desire that he stay until I come, what is that to you?”

(23) Therefore this word went out among the brothers that, that one disciple wouldn't die but Yeshua didn't say to him he wouldn't die rather, "If I want him to remain until I come, what's to you?"

[23] Because of this, a rumor spread among the believers that this disciple would not die. But Jesus did not say that he would not die; He only said, "If I want him to remain alive until I return, what is that to you?" Even then, believers needed correction about Jesus' words.
