Now six stone water jars had been set there for the Jewish rites of purification. Each could hold from twenty to thirty gallons.

[6] Nearby stood six large stone water jars, the kind used by the Jews for their ceremonial washing. Each jar could hold twenty to thirty gallons - vessels of ritual purification about to become vessels of celebration.
