And He asked them, “Which is lawful on the Sabbath: to do good or to do evil, to save life or to destroy it?” But they were silent.

He says to them, "Is it permitted to do good or doevil on Shabbat? Saving life or killing?" But they kept silent.

[4] Then Jesus challenged His critics with penetrating questions: "What does God's law actually permit on the Sabbath—to help or to harm? To save life or to destroy it?" Their telling silence revealed hearts more committed to regulation than compassion.
