For Jesus had commanded the unclean spirit to come out of the man. Many times it had seized him, and though he was bound with chains and shackles, he had broken the chains and been driven by the demon into solitary places.
Berean Standard Bible (BSB)
For Jesus was commanding the unclean spirit to come out of the man. For the unclean spirit had often seized the man. He was kept under guard, and bound with chains and fetters. Breaking the bands apart, he was driven by the demon into the desert.

For{G1063} oftentimes{G4183}{G5550} it had caught{G4884}{(G5715)} him{G846}: and{G2532} he was kept{G5442}{(G5746)} bound{G1196}{(G5712)} with chains{G254} and{G2532} in fetters{G3976}; and{G2532} he brake{G1284}{(G5723)} the bands{G1199}, and was driven{G1643}{(G5712)} of{G5259} the devil{G1142} into{G1519} the wilderness{G2048}.)
Strong's King James
(29) Because He had commanded the impure spirit to come out from the man. For it had seized him many times and he was tied up and guarded with chains and shackles, and he would break his chains and be driven under the demon into the desert.
The F.O.G*
[29] Jesus was already commanding the evil spirit to leave this tortured soul. Previous attempts to control the man with chains and guards had failed – the demons' power had snapped every restraint, driving him into lonely wilderness.
The F.O.G Paraphrase
For he commanded the unclean spirit to come forth from the man, for many times it had caught him, and he was being bound with chains and fetters—guarded, and breaking asunder the bonds he was driven by the demons to the deserts.
