These men searched for their family records, but they could not find them and so were excluded from the priesthood as unclean.

These searched for their geneological records, but couldn’t find them. Therefore were they deemed polluted and put from the priesthood.
World English Bible (WEB)
These sought{H1245}{(H8765)} their register{H3791} among those that were reckoned by genealogy{H3187}{(H8693)}, but it was not found{H4672}{(H8738)}: therefore were they, as polluted{H1351}{(H8792)}, put from the priesthood{H3550}.

These searched their genealogy register, but they couldn't be found, so they were considered polluted from the priesthood.
