“We have a law,” answered the Jews, “and according to that law He must die, because He declared Himself to be the Son of God.”

(7) The Judeans answered him, "We have Torah and by Torah He should die because He made Himself the Son of אֱלֹהִים Elohim (God)!"

[7] The Jewish leaders insisted, "We have a law, and according to that law He must die, because He claimed to be the Son of God" – ironically declaring the very truth they refused to accept.

the Jews answered him, ‘We have a law, and according to our law he ought to die, for he made himself Son of God.’
