The Plot to Kill Jesus
(Matthew 26:1-5; Mark 14:1-2; John 11:45-57)
1Now the feast of unleavened bread drew nigh, which is called the Passover. 2And the chief priests and scribes sought how they might kill him; for they feared the people.
3Then entered Satan into Judas surnamed Iscariot, being of the number of the twelve. 4And he went his way, and communed with the chief priests and captains, how he might betray him unto them. 5And they were glad, and covenanted to give him money. 6And he promised, and sought opportunity to betray him unto them in the absence of the multitude.
The Last Supper
(Psalm 41:1-13; Matthew 26:17-25; Mark 14:12-21; John 13:18-30)
7Then came the day of unleavened bread, when the passover must be killed. 8And he sent Peter and John, saying, Go and prepare us the passover, that we may eat. 9And they said unto him, Where wilt thou that we prepare? 10And he said unto them, Behold, when ye are entered into the city, there shall a man meet you, bearing a pitcher of water; follow him into the house where he entereth in. 11And ye shall say unto the goodman of the house, The Master saith unto thee, Where is the guestchamber, where I shall eat the passover with my disciples? 12And he shall shew you a large upper room furnished: there make ready. 13And they went, and found as he had said unto them: and they made ready the passover.
The Lord's Supper Instituted
(Matthew 26:26-30; Mark 14:22-26; 1 Corinthians 11:17-34)
14And when the hour was come, he sat down, and the twelve apostles with him. 15And he said unto them, With desire I have desired to eat this passover with you before I suffer: 16For I say unto you, I will not any more eat thereof, until it be fulfilled in the kingdom of God. 17And he took the cup, and gave thanks, and said, Take this, and divide it among yourselves: 18For I say unto you, I will not drink of the fruit of the vine, until the kingdom of God shall come. 19And he took bread, and gave thanks, and brake it, and gave unto them, saying, This is my body which is given for you: this do in remembrance of me. 20Likewise also the cup after supper, saying, This cup is the new testament in my blood, which is shed for you. 21But, behold, the hand of him that betrayeth me is with me on the table. 22And truly the Son of man goeth, as it was determined: but woe unto that man by whom he is betrayed! 23And they began to inquire among themselves, which of them it was that should do this thing.
Who is the Greatest?
24And there was also a strife among them, which of them should be accounted the greatest. 25And he said unto them, The kings of the Gentiles exercise lordship over them; and they that exercise authority upon them are called benefactors. 26But ye shall not be so: but he that is greatest among you, let him be as the younger; and he that is chief, as he that doth serve. 27For whether is greater, he that sitteth at meat, or he that serveth? is not he that sitteth at meat? but I am among you as he that serveth.
28Ye are they which have continued with me in my temptations. 29And I appoint unto you a kingdom, as my Father hath appointed unto me; 30That ye may eat and drink at my table in my kingdom, and sit on thrones judging the twelve tribes of Israel.
Jesus Predicts Peter's Denial
(Matthew 26:31-35; Mark 14:27-31; John 13:36-38)
31And the Lord said, Simon, Simon, behold, Satan hath desired to have you, that he may sift you as wheat: 32But I have prayed for thee, that thy faith fail not: and when thou art converted, strengthen thy brethren. 33And he said unto him, Lord, I am ready to go with thee, both into prison, and to death. 34And he said, I tell thee, Peter, the cock shall not crow this day, before that thou shalt thrice deny that thou knowest me.
35And he said unto them, When I sent you without purse, and scrip, and shoes, lacked ye any thing? And they said, Nothing. 36Then said he unto them, But now, he that hath a purse, let him take it, and likewise his scrip: and he that hath no sword, let him sell his garment, and buy one. 37For I say unto you, that this that is written must yet be accomplished in me, And he was reckoned among the transgressors: for the things concerning me have an end. 38And they said, Lord, behold, here are two swords. And he said unto them, It is enough.
Jesus Prays on the Mount of Olives
(Matthew 26:36-46; Mark 14:32-42)
39And he came out, and went, as he was wont, to the mount of Olives; and his disciples also followed him. 40And when he was at the place, he said unto them, Pray that ye enter not into temptation. 41And he was withdrawn from them about a stone's cast, and kneeled down, and prayed, 42Saying, Father, if thou be willing, remove this cup from me: nevertheless not my will, but thine, be done. 43And there appeared an angel unto him from heaven, strengthening him. 44And being in an agony he prayed more earnestly: and his sweat was as it were great drops of blood falling down to the ground. 45And when he rose up from prayer, and was come to his disciples, he found them sleeping for sorrow, 46And said unto them, Why sleep ye? rise and pray, lest ye enter into temptation.
Jesus' Betrayal and Arrest
(Matthew 26:47-56; Mark 14:43-52; John 18:1-14)
47And while he yet spake, behold a multitude, and he that was called Judas, one of the twelve, went before them, and drew near unto Jesus to kiss him. 48But Jesus said unto him, Judas, betrayest thou the Son of man with a kiss? 49When they which were about him saw what would follow, they said unto him, Lord, shall we smite with the sword? 50And one of them smote the servant of the high priest, and cut off his right ear. 51And Jesus answered and said, Suffer ye thus far. And he touched his ear, and healed him. 52Then Jesus said unto the chief priests, and captains of the temple, and the elders, which were come to him, Be ye come out, as against a thief, with swords and staves? 53When I was daily with you in the temple, ye stretched forth no hands against me: but this is your hour, and the power of darkness.
Peter Denies Jesus
(Matthew 26:69-75; Mark 14:66-72; John 18:15-18)
54Then took they him, and led him, and brought him into the high priest's house. And Peter followed afar off. 55And when they had kindled a fire in the midst of the hall, and were set down together, Peter sat down among them. 56But a certain maid beheld him as he sat by the fire, and earnestly looked upon him, and said, This man was also with him. 57And he denied him, saying, Woman, I know him not. 58And after a little while another saw him, and said, Thou art also of them. And Peter said, Man, I am not. 59And about the space of one hour after another confidently affirmed, saying, Of a truth this fellow also was with him: for he is a Galilaean. 60And Peter said, Man, I know not what thou sayest. And immediately, while he yet spake, the cock crew. 61And the Lord turned, and looked upon Peter. And Peter remembered the word of the Lord, how he had said unto him, Before the cock crow, thou shalt deny me thrice. 62And Peter went out, and wept bitterly.
The Soldiers Mock Jesus
(Isaiah 50:4-11; Matthew 27:27-31; Mark 15:16-20; John 19:1-15)
63And the men that held Jesus mocked him, and smote him. 64And when they had blindfolded him, they struck him on the face, and asked him, saying, Prophesy, who is it that smote thee? 65And many other things blasphemously spake they against him.
Jesus Before the Council
66And as soon as it was day, the elders of the people and the chief priests and the scribes came together, and led him into their council, saying, 67Art thou the Christ? tell us. And he said unto them, If I tell you, ye will not believe: 68And if I also ask you, ye will not answer me, nor let me go. 69Hereafter shall the Son of man sit on the right hand of the power of God. 70Then said they all, Art thou then the Son of God? And he said unto them, Ye say that I am. 71And they said, What need we any further witness? for we ourselves have heard of his own mouth.

The Plot to Kill Jesus
(Matthew 26:1–5; Mark 14:1–2; John 11:45–57)
1 Now the feast of unleavened bread, which is called the Passover, drew near. 2 The chief priests and the scribes sought how they might put him to death, for they feared the people.
Judas Agrees to Betray Jesus
(Matthew 26:14–16; Mark 14:10–11)
3 Satan entered into Judas, who was surnamed Iscariot, who was numbered with the twelve. 4 He went away, and talked with the chief priests and captains about how he might deliver him to them. 5 They were glad, and agreed to give him money. 6 He consented, and sought an opportunity to deliver him to them in the absence of the multitude.
Preparing the Passover
(Matthew 26:17–19; Mark 14:12–16)
7 The day of unleavened bread came, on which the Passover must be sacrificed. 8 He sent Peter and John, saying, “Go and prepare the Passover for us, that we may eat.” 9 They said to him, “Where do you want us to prepare?” 10 He said to them, “Behold, when you have entered into the city, a man carrying a pitcher of water will meet you. Follow him into the house which he enters. 11 Tell the master of the house, ‘The Teacher says to you, “Where is the guest room, where I may eat the Passover with my disciples?”’ 12 He will show you a large, furnished upper room. Make preparations there.” 13 They went, found things as he had told them, and they prepared the Passover.
The Last Supper
(Matthew 26:20–30; Mark 14:17–26; 1 Corinthians 11:17–34)
14 When the hour had come, he sat down with the twelve apostles. 15 He said to them, “I have earnestly desired to eat this Passover with you before I suffer, 16 for I tell you, I will no longer by any means eat of it until it is fulfilled in the Kingdom of God.” 17 He received a cup, and when he had given thanks, he said, “Take this, and share it among yourselves, 18 for I tell you, I will not drink at all again from the fruit of the vine, until the Kingdom of God comes.” 19 He took bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it, and gave to them, saying, “This is my body which is given for you. Do this in memory of me.” 20 Likewise, he took the cup after supper, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in my blood, which is poured out for you. 21 But behold, the hand of him who betrays me is with me on the table. 22 The Son of Man indeed goes, as it has been determined, but woe to that man through whom he is betrayed!” 23 They began to question among themselves, which of them it was who would do this thing.
Who Is the Greatest?
24 There arose also a contention among them, which of them was considered to be greatest. 25 He said to them, “The kings of the nations lord it over them, and those who have authority over them are called ‘benefactors.’ 26 But not so with you. But one who is the greater among you, let him become as the younger, and one who is governing, as one who serves. 27 For who is greater, one who sits at the table, or one who serves? Isn’t it he who sits at the table? But I am in the midst of you as one who serves.
28 But you are those who have continued with me in my trials. 29 I confer on you a kingdom, even as my Father conferred on me, 30 that you may eat and drink at my table in my Kingdom. You will sit on thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel.”
Jesus Predicts Peter’s Denial
(Matthew 26:31–35; Mark 14:27–31; John 13:36–38)
31 The Lord said, “Simon, Simon, behold, Satan asked to have you, that he might sift you as wheat, 32 but I prayed for you, that your faith wouldn’t fail. You, when once you have turned again, establish your brothers.” 33 He said to him, “Lord, I am ready to go with you both to prison and to death!” 34 He said, “I tell you, Peter, the rooster will by no means crow today until you deny that you know me three times.”
35 He said to them, “When I sent you out without purse, and wallet, and shoes, did you lack anything?” They said, “Nothing.” 36 Then he said to them, “But now, whoever has a purse, let him take it, and likewise a wallet. Whoever has none, let him sell his cloak, and buy a sword. 37 For I tell you that this which is written must still be fulfilled in me: ‘He was counted with transgressors.’ For that which concerns me has an end.” 38 They said, “Lord, behold, here are two swords.” He said to them, “That is enough.”
Jesus Prays on the Mount of Olives
(Matthew 26:36–46; Mark 14:32–42)
39 He came out, and went, as his custom was, to the Mount of Olives. His disciples also followed him. 40 When he was at the place, he said to them, “Pray that you don’t enter into temptation.” 41 He was withdrawn from them about a stone’s throw, and he knelt down and prayed, 42 saying, “Father, if you are willing, remove this cup from me. Nevertheless, not my will, but yours, be done.” 43 An angel from heaven appeared to him, strengthening him. 44 Being in agony he prayed more earnestly. His sweat became like great drops of blood falling down on the ground. 45 When he rose up from his prayer, he came to the disciples, and found them sleeping because of grief,
46 and said to them, “Why do you sleep? Rise and pray that you may not enter into temptation.”
The Betrayal of Jesus
(Matthew 26:47–56; Mark 14:43–52; John 18:1–14)
47 While he was still speaking, behold, a multitude, and he who was called Judas, one of the twelve, was leading them. He came near to Jesus to kiss him. 48 But Jesus said to him, “Judas, do you betray the Son of Man with a kiss?” 49 When those who were around him saw what was about to happen, they said to him, “Lord, shall we strike with the sword?” 50 A certain one of them struck the servant of the high priest, and cut off his right ear. 51 But Jesus answered, “Let me at least do this”—and he touched his ear, and healed him. 52 Jesus said to the chief priests, captains of the temple, and elders, who had come against him, “Have you come out as against a robber, with swords and clubs? 53 When I was with you in the temple daily, you didn’t stretch out your hands against me. But this is your hour, and the power of darkness.”
Peter Denies Jesus
(Matthew 26:69–75; Mark 14:66–72; John 18:15–18)
54 They seized him, and led him away, and brought him into the high priest’s house. But Peter followed from a distance. 55 When they had kindled a fire in the middle of the courtyard, and had sat down together, Peter sat among them. 56 A certain servant girl saw him as he sat in the light, and looking intently at him, said, “This man also was with him.” 57 He denied Jesus, saying, “Woman, I don’t know him.” 58 After a little while someone else saw him, and said, “You also are one of them!” But Peter answered, “Man, I am not!” 59 After about one hour passed, another confidently affirmed, saying, “Truly this man also was with him, for he is a Galilean!” 60 But Peter said, “Man, I don’t know what you are talking about!” Immediately, while he was still speaking, a rooster crowed. 61 The Lord turned, and looked at Peter. Then Peter remembered the Lord’s word, how he said to him, “Before the rooster crows you will deny me three times.” 62 He went out, and wept bitterly.
The Soldiers Mock Jesus
(Isaiah 50:4–11; Matthew 27:27–31; Mark 15:16–20; John 19:1–15)
63 The men who held Jesus mocked him and beat him. 64 Having blindfolded him, they struck him on the face and asked him, “Prophesy! Who is the one who struck you?” 65 They spoke many other things against him, insulting him.
Jesus before the Sanhedrin
(Matthew 26:57–68; Mark 14:53–65; John 18:19–24)
66 As soon as it was day, the assembly of the elders of the people was gathered together, both chief priests and scribes, and they led him away into their council, saying, 67 “If you are the Christ, tell us.” But he said to them, “If I tell you, you won’t believe, 68 and if I ask, you will in no way answer me or let me go. 69 From now on, the Son of Man will be seated at the right hand of the power of God.” 70 They all said, “Are you then the Son of God?” He said to them, “You say it, because I am.” 71 They said, “Why do we need any more witness? For we ourselves have heard from his own mouth!”
The Plot to Kill Jesus
(Matthew 26:1–5; Mark 14:1–2; John 11:45–57)
1 Now the Feast of Unleavened Bread, a called the Passover, was approaching, 2 and the chief priests and scribes were looking for a way to put Jesus to death; for they feared the people.
Judas Agrees to Betray Jesus
(Matthew 26:14–16; Mark 14:10–11)
3 Then Satan entered Judas Iscariot, who was one of the Twelve. 4 And Judas went to discuss with the chief priests and temple officers how he might betray Jesus to them. 5 They were delighted and agreed to give him money. 6 Judas consented, and began to look for an opportunity to betray Jesus to them in the absence of a crowd.
Preparing the Passover
(Matthew 26:17–19; Mark 14:12–16)
7 Then came the day of Unleavened Bread on which the Passover lamb was to be sacrificed. 8 Jesus sent Peter and John, saying, “Go and prepare for us to eat the Passover.”
9 “Where do You want us to prepare it?” they asked.
10 He answered, “When you enter the city, a man carrying a jug of water will meet you. Follow him to the house he enters, 11 and say to the owner of that house, ‘The Teacher asks: Where is the guest room, where I may eat the Passover with My disciples?’ 12 And he will show you a large upper room, already furnished. Make preparations there.”
13 So they went and found it just as Jesus had told them. And they prepared the Passover.
The Last Supper
(Matthew 26:20–30; Mark 14:17–26; 1 Corinthians 11:17–34)
14 When the hour had come, Jesus reclined at the table with His apostles. 15 And He said to them, “I have eagerly desired to eat this Passover with you before My suffering. 16 For I tell you that I will not eat it again until it is fulfilled in the kingdom of God.”
17 After taking the cup, He gave thanks and said, “Take this and divide it among yourselves. 18 For I tell you that I will not drink of the fruit of the vine from now on until the kingdom of God comes.”
19 And He took the bread, gave thanks and broke it, and gave it to them, saying, “This is My body, given for you; do this in remembrance of Me.”
20 In the same way, after supper He took the cup, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in My blood, which is poured out for you. b
21 Look! The hand of My betrayer is with Mine on the table. 22 Indeed, the Son of Man will go as it has been determined, but woe to that man who betrays Him.”
23 Then they began to question among themselves which of them was going to do this.
Who Is the Greatest?
24 A dispute also arose among the disciples as to which of them would be considered the greatest. 25 So Jesus declared, “The kings of the Gentiles lord it over them, and those in authority over them call themselves benefactors. 26 But you shall not be like them. Instead, the greatest among you should be like the youngest, and the one who leads like the one who serves. 27 For who is greater, the one who reclines at the table or the one who serves? Is it not the one who reclines? But I am among you as one who serves.
28 You are the ones who have stood by Me in My trials. 29 And I bestow on you a kingdom, just as My Father has bestowed one on Me, 30 so that you may eat and drink at My table in My kingdom, and sit on thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel.
Jesus Predicts Peter’s Denial
(Matthew 26:31–35; Mark 14:27–31; John 13:36–38)
31 Simon, Simon, Satan has asked to sift each of you like wheat. 32 But I have prayed for you, Simon, that your faith will not fail. And when you have turned back, strengthen your brothers.”
33 “Lord,” said Peter, “I am ready to go with You even to prison and to death.”
34 But Jesus replied, “I tell you, Peter, the rooster will not crow today until you have denied three times that you know Me.”
35 Then Jesus asked them, “When I sent you out without purse or bag or sandals, did you lack anything?”
“Nothing,” they answered.
36 “Now, however,” He told them, “the one with a purse should take it, and likewise a bag; and the one without a sword should sell his cloak and buy one. 37 For I tell you that this Scripture must be fulfilled in Me: ‘And He was numbered with the transgressors.’ c For what is written about Me is reaching its fulfillment.”
38 So they said, “Look, Lord, here are two swords.”
“That is enough,” He answered.
Jesus Prays on the Mount of Olives
(Matthew 26:36–46; Mark 14:32–42)
39 Jesus went out as usual to the Mount of Olives, and the disciples followed Him. 40 When He came to the place, He told them, “Pray that you will not enter into temptation.”
41 And He withdrew about a stone’s throw beyond them, where He knelt down and prayed, 42 “Father, if You are willing, take this cup from Me. Yet not My will, but Yours be done.”
43 Then an angel from heaven appeared to Him and strengthened Him. 44 And in His anguish, He prayed more earnestly, and His sweat became like drops of blood falling to the ground. d
45 When Jesus rose from prayer and returned to the disciples, He found them asleep, exhausted from sorrow. 46 “Why are you sleeping?” He asked. “Get up and pray so that you will not enter into temptation.”
The Betrayal of Jesus
(Matthew 26:47–56; Mark 14:43–52; John 18:1–14)
47 While He was still speaking, a crowd arrived, led by the man called Judas, one of the Twelve. He approached Jesus to kiss Him. 48 But Jesus asked him, “Judas, are you betraying the Son of Man with a kiss?”
49 Those around Jesus saw what was about to happen and said, “Lord, should we strike with our swords?” 50 And one of them struck the servant of the high priest, cutting off his right ear.
51 But Jesus answered, “No more of this!” And He touched the man’s ear and healed him.
52 Then Jesus said to the chief priests, temple officers, and elders who had come for Him, “Have you come out with swords and clubs as you would against an outlaw? 53 Every day I was with you in the temple courts, e and you did not lay a hand on Me. But this hour belongs to you and to the power of darkness.”
Peter Denies Jesus
(Matthew 26:69–75; Mark 14:66–72; John 18:15–18)
54 Then they seized Jesus, led Him away, and took Him into the house of the high priest. And Peter followed at a distance.
55 When those present had kindled a fire in the middle of the courtyard and sat down together, Peter sat down among them. 56 A servant girl saw him seated in the firelight and looked intently at him. “This man also was with Him,” she said.
57 But Peter denied it. “Woman, I do not know Him,” he said.
58 A short time later, someone else saw him and said, “You also are one of them.”
But Peter said, “Man, I am not.”
59 About an hour later, another man insisted, “Certainly this man was with Him, for he too is a Galilean.”
60 “Man, I do not know what you are talking about,” Peter replied.
While he was still speaking, the rooster crowed. 61 And the Lord turned and looked at Peter.
Then Peter remembered the word that the Lord had spoken to him: “Before the rooster crows today, you will deny Me three times.” 62 And he went outside and wept bitterly.
The Soldiers Mock Jesus
(Isaiah 50:4–11; Matthew 27:27–31; Mark 15:16–20; John 19:1–15)
63 The men who were holding Jesus began to mock Him and beat Him. 64 They blindfolded Him f and kept demanding, “Prophesy! Who hit You?” 65 And they said many other blasphemous things against Him.
Jesus before the Sanhedrin
(Matthew 26:57–68; Mark 14:53–65; John 18:19–24)
66 At daybreak the council of the elders of the people, both the chief priests and scribes, met together. They led Jesus into their Sanhedrin g and said, 67 “If You are the Christ, tell us.”
Jesus answered, “If I tell you, you will not believe. 68 And if I ask you a question, you will not answer. 69 But from now on the Son of Man will be seated at the right hand of the power of God.” h
70 So they all asked, “Are You then the Son of God?”
He replied, “You say that I am.”
71 “Why do we need any more testimony?” they declared. “We have heard it for ourselves from His own lips.”

The Plot to Kill Jesus
(Matthew 26:1-5; Mark 14:1-2; John 11:45-57)
1And the feast of the unleavened food was coming nigh, that is called Passover, 2and the chief priests and the scribes were seeking how they may take him up, for they were afraid of the people.
3And the Adversary entered into Judas, who is surnamed Iscariot, being of the number of the twelve, 4and he, having gone away, spake with the chief priests and the magistrates, how he might deliver him up to them, 5and they rejoiced, and covenanted to give him money, 6and he agreed, and was seeking a favourable season to deliver him up to them without tumult.
The Last Supper
(Psalm 41:1-13; Matthew 26:17-25; Mark 14:12-21; John 13:18-30)
7And the day of the unleavened food came, in which it was behoving the passover to be sacrificed, 8and he sent Peter and John, saying, 'Having gone on, prepare to us the passover, that we may eat;' 9and they said to him, 'Where wilt thou that we might prepare?' 10And he said to them, 'Lo, in your entering into the city, there shall meet you a man, bearing a pitcher of water, follow him to the house where he doth go in, 11and ye shall say to the master of the house, The Teacher saith to thee, Where is the guest-chamber where the passover with my disciples I may eat? 12and he shall show you a large upper room furnished, there make ready;' 13and they, having gone away, found as he hath said to them, and they made ready the passover.
The Lord's Supper Instituted
(Matthew 26:26-30; Mark 14:22-26; 1 Corinthians 11:17-34)
14And when the hour come, he reclined (at meat), and the twelve apostles with him, 15and he said unto them, 'With desire I did desire to eat this passover with you before my suffering, 16for I say to you, that no more may I eat of it till it may be fulfilled in the reign of God.' 17And having taken a cup, having given thanks, he said, 'Take this and divide to yourselves, 18for I say to you that I may not drink of the produce of the vine till the reign of God may come.' 19And having taken bread, having given thanks, he brake and gave to them, saying, 'This is my body, that for you is being given, this do ye -- to remembrance of me.' 20In like manner, also, the cup after the supping, saying, 'This cup is the new covenant in my blood, that for you is being poured forth. 21But, lo, the hand of him delivering me up is with me on the table, 22and indeed the Son of Man doth go according to what hath been determined; but woe to that man through whom he is being delivered up.' 23And they began to reason among themselves, who then of them it may be, who is about to do this thing.
Who is the Greatest?
24And there happened also a strife among them -- who of them is accounted to be greater. 25And he said to them, 'The kings of the nations do exercise lordship over them, and those exercising authority upon them are called benefactors; 26but ye are not so, but he who is greater among you -- let him be as the younger; and he who is leading, as he who is ministering; 27for who is greater? he who is reclining (at meat), or he who is ministering? is it not he who is reclining (at meat)? and I -- I am in your midst as he who is ministering.
28'And ye -- ye are those who have remained with me in my temptations, 29and I appoint to you, as my Father did appoint to me, a kingdom, 30that ye may eat and may drink at my table, in my kingdom, and may sit on thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel.'

(Matthew 26:31-35; Mark 14:27-31; John 13:36-38)
31And the Lord said, 'Simon, Simon, lo, the Adversary did ask you for himself to sift as the wheat, 32and I besought for thee, that thy faith may not fail; and thou, when thou didst turn, strengthen thy brethren.' 33And he said to him, 'Sir, with thee I am ready both to prison and to death to go;' 34and he said, 'I say to thee, Peter, a cock shall not crow to-day, before thrice thou mayest disown knowing me.'
35And he said to them, 'When I sent you without bag, and scrip, and sandals, did ye lack anything?' and they said, 'Nothing.' 36Then said he to them, 'But, now, he who is having a bag, let him take it up, and in like manner also a scrip; and he who is not having, let him sell his garment, and buy a sword, 37for I say to you, that yet this that hath been written it behoveth to be fulfilled in me: And with lawless ones he was reckoned, for also the things concerning me have an end.' 38And they said, 'Sir, lo, here are two swords;' and he said to them, 'It is sufficient.'
Jesus Prays on the Mount of Olives
(Matthew 26:36-46; Mark 14:32-42)
39And having gone forth, he went on, according to custom, to the mount of the Olives, and his disciples also followed him, 40and having come to the place, he said to them, 'Pray ye not to enter into temptation.' 41And he was withdrawn from them, as it were a stone's cast, and having fallen on the knees he was praying, 42saying, 'Father, if Thou be counselling to make this cup pass from me -- ;but, not my will, but Thine be done.' -- 43And there appeared to him a messenger from heaven strengthening him; 44and having been in agony, he was more earnestly praying, and his sweat became, as it were, great drops of blood falling upon the ground. 45And having risen up from the prayer, having come unto the disciples, he found them sleeping from the sorrow, 46and he said to them, 'Why do ye sleep? having risen, pray that ye may not enter into temptation.'
Jesus' Betrayal and Arrest
(Matthew 26:47-56; Mark 14:43-52; John 18:1-14)
47And while he is speaking, lo, a multitude, and he who is called Judas, one of the twelve, was coming before them, and he came nigh to Jesus to kiss him, 48and Jesus said to him, 'Judas, with a kiss the Son of Man dost thou deliver up?' 49And those about him, having seen what was about to be, said to him, 'Sir, shall we smite with a sword?' 50And a certain one of them smote the servant of the chief priest, and took off his right ear, 51and Jesus answering said, 'Suffer ye thus far,' and having touched his ear, he healed him. 52And Jesus said to those having come upon him -- chief priests, and magistrates of the temple, and elders -- 'As upon a robber have ye come forth, with swords and sticks? 53while daily I was with you in the temple, ye did stretch forth no hands against me; but this is your hour and the power of the darkness.'
Peter Denies Jesus
(Matthew 26:69-75; Mark 14:66-72; John 18:15-18)
54And having taken him, they led and brought him to the house of the chief priest. And Peter was following afar off, 55and they having kindled a fire in the midst of the court, and having sat down together, Peter was sitting in the midst of them, 56and a certain maid having seen him sitting at the light, and having earnestly looked at him, she said, 'And this one was with him!' 57and he disowned him, saying, 'Woman, I have not known him.' 58And after a little, another having seen him, said, 'And thou art of them!' and Peter said, 'Man, I am not.' 59And one hour, as it were, having intervened, a certain other was confidently affirming, saying, 'Of a truth this one also was with him, for he is also a Galilean;' 60and Peter said, 'Man, I have not known what thou sayest;' and presently, while he is speaking, a cock crew. 61And the Lord having turned did look on Peter, and Peter remembered the word of the Lord, how he said to him -- 'Before a cock shall crow, thou mayest disown me thrice;' 62and Peter having gone without, wept bitterly.
The Soldiers Mock Jesus
(Isaiah 50:4-11; Matthew 27:27-31; Mark 15:16-20; John 19:1-15)
63And the men who were holding Jesus were mocking him, beating him; 64and having blindfolded him, they were striking him on the face, and were questioning him, saying, 'Prophesy who he is who smote thee?' 65and many other things, speaking evilly, they spake in regard to him.
Jesus Before the Council
66And when it became day there was gathered together the eldership of the people, chief priests also, and scribes, and they led him up to their own sanhedrim, 67saying, 'If thou be the Christ, tell us.' And he said to them, 'If I may tell you, ye will not believe; 68and if I also question you, ye will not answer me or send me away; 69henceforth, there shall be the Son of Man sitting on the right hand of the power of God.' 70And they all said, 'Thou, then, art the Son of God?' and he said unto them, 'Ye say it, because I am;' 71and they said, 'What need yet have we of testimony? for we ourselves did hear it from his mouth.'
The Favor of God Message paraphrase
¹ Now the Feast of Unleavened Bread, called the Passover, was approaching, ² and the chief priests and the teachers of the law were looking for some way to get rid of Jesus, for they were afraid of the people. ³ Then Satan entered Judas, called Iscariot, one of the Twelve. ⁴ And Judas went to the chief priests and the officers of the temple guard and discussed with them how he might betray Jesus. ⁵ They were delighted and agreed to give him money. ⁶ He consented, and watched for an opportunity to hand Jesus over to them when no crowd was present.
The Last Supper
⁷ Then came the day of Unleavened Bread on which the Passover lamb had to be sacrificed. ⁸ Jesus sent Peter and John, saying, “Go and make preparations for us to eat the Passover.”
⁹ “Where do You want us to prepare it?” they asked.
¹⁰ He replied, “As you enter the city, a man carrying a jar of water will meet you. Follow him to the house that he enters, ¹¹ and say to the owner of the house, ‘The Teacher asks: Where is the guest room, where I may eat the Passover with My disciples?’ ¹² He will show you a large room upstairs, all furnished. Make preparations there.”
¹³ They left and found things just as Jesus had told them. So they prepared the Passover.
¹⁴ When the hour came, Jesus and His apostles reclined at the table. ¹⁵ And He said to them, “I have eagerly desired to eat this Passover with you before I suffer. ¹⁶ For I tell you, I will not eat it again until it finds fulfillment in the kingdom of God.”
¹⁷ After taking the cup, He gave thanks and said, “Take this and divide it among you. ¹⁸ For I tell you I will not drink again from the fruit of the vine until the kingdom of God comes.”
¹⁹ And He took bread, gave thanks and broke it, and gave it to them, saying, “This is My body given for you; do this in remembrance of Me.” ²⁰ In the same way, after the supper He took the cup, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in My blood, which is poured out for you. ²¹ But the hand of him who is going to betray Me is with Mine on the table. ²² The Son of Man will go as it has been decreed. But woe to that man who betrays Him!”
²³ They began to question among themselves which of them it might be who would do this.
Dispute Among the Disciples
²⁴ A dispute also arose among them as to which of them was considered to be greatest. ²⁵ Jesus said to them, “The kings of the Gentiles lord it over them; and those who exercise authority over them call themselves Benefactors. ²⁶ But you are not to be like that. Instead, the greatest among you should be like the youngest, and the one who rules like the one who serves. ²⁷ For who is greater, the one who is at the table or the one who serves? Is it not the one who is at the table? But I am among you as one who serves.
²⁸ You are those who have stood by Me in My trials. ²⁹ And I confer on you a kingdom, just as My Father conferred one on Me, ³⁰ so that you may eat and drink at My table in My kingdom and sit on thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel.
Jesus Predicts Peter’s Denial
³¹ “Simon, Simon, Satan has asked to sift all of you as wheat. ³² But I have prayed for you, Simon, that your faith may not fail. And when you have turned back, strengthen your brothers.”
³³ But he replied, “Lord, I am ready to go with You to prison and to death.”
³⁴ Jesus answered, “I tell you, Peter, before the rooster crows today, you will deny three times that you know Me.”
Jesus’ Final Instructions
³⁵ Then Jesus asked them, “When I sent you without purse, bag or sandals, did you lack anything?”
“Nothing,” they answered.
³⁶ He said to them, “But now if you have a purse, take it, and also a bag; and if you don’t have a sword, sell your cloak and buy one. ³⁷ It is written: ‘And He was numbered with the transgressors’; and I tell you that this must be fulfilled in Me. Yes, what is written about Me is reaching its fulfillment.”
³⁸ The disciples said, “See, Lord, here are two swords.”
“That’s enough!” He replied.
Jesus Prays on the Mount of Olives
³⁹ Jesus went out as usual to the Mount of Olives, and His disciples followed Him. ⁴⁰ On reaching the place, He said to them, “Pray that you will not fall into temptation.” ⁴¹ He withdrew about a stone’s throw beyond them, knelt down and prayed, ⁴² “Father, if You are willing, take this cup from Me; yet not My will, but Yours be done.”
⁴³ An angel from heaven appeared to Him and strengthened Him. ⁴⁴ And being in anguish, He prayed more earnestly, and His sweat was like drops of blood falling to the ground.
⁴⁵ When He rose from prayer and went back to the disciples, He found them asleep, exhausted from sorrow. ⁴⁶ “Why are you sleeping?” He asked them. “Get up and pray so that you will not fall into temptation.”
Jesus Arrested
⁴⁷ While He was still speaking, a crowd came up, and the man who was called Judas, one of the Twelve, was leading them. He approached Jesus to kiss Him, ⁴⁸ but Jesus asked him, “Judas, are you betraying the Son of Man with a kiss?”
⁴⁹ When Jesus’ followers saw what was going to happen, they said, “Lord, should we strike with our swords?”
⁵⁰ And one of them struck the servant of the high priest, cutting off his right ear.
⁵¹ But Jesus answered, “No more of this!” And He touched the man’s ear and healed him.
⁵² Then Jesus said to the chief priests, the officers of the temple guard, and the elders, who had come for Him, “Am I leading a rebellion, that you have come with swords and clubs? ⁵³ Every day I was with you in the temple courts, and you did not lay a hand on Me. But this is your hour—when darkness reigns.”
Peter Disowns Jesus
⁵⁴ Then seizing Him, they led Him away and took Him into the house of the high priest. Peter followed at a distance. ⁵⁵ And when some there had kindled a fire in the middle of the courtyard and had sat down together, Peter sat down with them. ⁵⁶ A servant girl saw him seated there in the firelight. She looked closely at him and said, “This man was with Him.”
⁵⁷ But he denied it. “Woman, I don’t know Him,” he said.
⁵⁸ A little later someone else saw him and said, “You also are one of them.”
“Man, I am not!” Peter replied.
⁵⁹ About an hour later another asserted, “Certainly this fellow was with Him, for he is a Galilean.”
⁶⁰ Peter replied, “Man, I don’t know what you’re talking about!” Just as he was speaking, the rooster crowed. ⁶¹ The Lord turned and looked straight at Peter. Then Peter remembered the word the Lord had spoken to him: “Before the rooster crows today, you will disown Me three times.” ⁶² And he went outside and wept bitterly.

The Guards Mock Jesus
⁶³ The men who were guarding Jesus began mocking and beating Him. ⁶⁴ They blindfolded Him and demanded, “Prophesy! Who hit You?” ⁶⁵ And they said many other insulting things to Him.
Jesus Before the Sanhedrin
⁶⁶ At daybreak, the council of the elders of the people, both the chief priests and the teachers of the law, met together, and Jesus was led before them. ⁶⁷ “If You are the Messiah,” they said, “tell us.”
Jesus answered, “If I tell you, you will not believe Me, ⁶⁸ and if I asked you, you would not answer. ⁶⁹ But from now on, the Son of Man will be seated at the right hand of the mighty God.”
⁷⁰ They all asked, “Are You then the Son of God?”
He replied, “You say that I am.”
⁷¹ Then they said, “Why do we need any more testimony? We have heard it from His own lips.”
